God the more I stalk out the internet, the more I frustrated I feel, the more lost I am in the labyrinth of images and words, mostly trash, mostly overwhelming stupidity. Just this afternoon I couldn’t help but rant about the most marvelous invention, the computer. It’s Socrates’ nightmare, the deterioration of brain cells, the slowing down of thought processes. And it’s true. For I can no longer use a pen. For the words don’t come to me as smoothly and as easily as they used to. They jut, they quiver. With the computer, one can edit, delete, plagiarize, cut, paste, and basically do just about anything that your lazy fingers desire. There can’t possibly still be any distinction left between high and low culture, high and low language. The internet merges everything together into an explosion of colors and codes. Here I sit in front of the screen, typing furiously, plunging deeper into a complete virtual idiocy. Font: Futura Lt BT. Size: 12.
